Ramon Simó is the new director of the Grec
The theatre director and stage designer Ramon Simó is to be the director of the Grec for the next four years, replacing Ricardo Szwarcer. His appointment was announced by Jaume Ciurana, the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Knowledge, Creativity and Innovation.
Born in Tarragona in 1961, Ramon Simó graduated in Philosophy and Educational Science from Barcelona University. He teaches at the Institut del Teatre and directed the Fira de Teatre al Carrer de Tàrrega in 1996, 1997 and 1998. He has also been a member of the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya Advisory Council.
However, he is best known to the general public as a theatre director, an area in which he has distinguished himself with a number of productions seen at the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, among others “Escenes d’una execució” (2002) “Arcàdia” (2007) “La dama de Reus” (2008) and “Copenhaguen” (2011).
He has also directed plays in many other Catalan theatres, including the Sala Villarroel, where audiences could have seen “L’altra guerra” in 2007, and Sala Muntaner, where he staged “Petita feina per a pallasso vell” in 2009.
At the same time the Grec's new director has been the stage designer for productions like “El berenar d’Ulisses” (2010) at the Sala Beckett and “Peus descalços sota la lluna d’agost” (2011) which premiered at the Teatre Fortuny in Reus.
He has also performed in four shows with the Lisboa Zentral Cafè quintet and recorded an album, “Almanac”. And, besides that, he has published essays on the theatre, including “La Retòrica de l’emoció” and “Stanislavski. La tècnica de l’actor”.
